Horse Assisted Therapy for Veterans

"As prey animals, horses are hypervigilant until they learn they are not in danger. ... Because of their own hypervigilance, veterans with PTSD easily understand and can relate to the trust and hypervigilance in a horse."  Read more about Horse Assisted Therapy.

Jennifer Banton is a transplant Texan by way of Nevada, Hawai’i and North Carolina.  She now calls the Texas Hill Country home along with her amazing husband, Zeke and their two children, Kaycie and Wyatt.  Jen is a Registered Dental Hygienist at Dr. Susan Henson’s dental office in Burnet and thoroughly enjoys getting to know the community and her patients.  Jen currently serves on the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation- Access to Care Committee, the Hill Country Association of Sports and Fitness Board and loves to coach her daughter’s amazing soccer team.  Jen is no stranger to the non-profit world.  She founded SMART Smiles dental prevention program which provides under-served students with preventive dental care, a positive dental environment, and a referral service for dental.  This organization was adopted by the Smiles Foundation and can now help children receive much needed dental care all over Texas.

Jen first came to Sunset Cliff Farms (home of HARTH Foundation) in 2003 after serving in the United States Marine Corps as a CH-53E Helicopter Crewchief.  In the 5 years that Jen served our great Country she deployed 3 times, twice to Okinawa Japan where she flew all over South East Asia and once to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Jen is forever grateful to have had the opportunity to serve with some the most inspiring, motivated and truly dedicated men and women this Country has ever produced!  Jen learned of the amazing impact horses can have on veterans firsthand right here in the facility and grounds that houses HARTH Foundation’s horses.  The impact was so strong that Jen now has 5 horses of her own and will never be without them again!   The peace that comes with being around horses is one that Jen wants every veteran and their families to experience!

Jen wants to give back in any way she can and the HARTH Foundation is just the place to do it!  Helping others get through similar struggles and continuing to reintegrate back into “normal” life is a battle worth fighting!
